Well, Hoooooooowdy city slickers! I wanna tell ya bout a wonderful show we saw last night, the Baldknobbers. It was full of good ol down home comedy and wonderful country music. The kind of show you can take the whole family to and everyone will have a good time.
This was my first time to the Baldknobber show so I really didn’t know what to expect. We got there about 7:00 pm so we could see the pre-show. At 7:15 on the dot, Willie Make-it came out to entertain the folks. He was very funny and made the time go quickly. I recommend getting to the theater early so you don’t miss this part of the show.
The show opened strong with the whole cast singing country music. After the first couple songs, they introduced the band. Each had a chance to show off their talent. It was nice to see the band highlighted in the show. Most shows let the band show off as, what seems like, an after thought.
One of the highlights of this show has got to be the comedy. You can’t help but laugh. These guys know funny. Hargus Marcel, Droopy Drawers Jr, and Stub Meadows come out between songs and talk to Bob Leftridge (the emcee). The crowd listened intently at the beginning, but was rolling on the floor when they left the stage. It’s clean comedy too, something you don’t have to worry about what the kids hear. I remember a few of their jokes, but won’t spoil it for you. Just trust me, you can’t leave the show without a smile on your face and a chuckle or two on the drive back to the hotel.
I do want to mention that the country was mostly new country. Songs like “Baton Rouge”, “Blue Clear Sky”, “Heaven, Heartache and the Power of Love”, “If Your Reading This” and “Mi Vida Loca”. They also did a wonderful medley of all the armed forces songs to honor the veterans in the audience. They also sang favorites like “Choo Choo Ch’boogie” and “Route 66”. The end of the show was filled with Gospel music.
If your looking for a “ down home, country folk, hillbilly comedy, and great country music” show, you can’t go wrong going to the Baldknobbers! Funniest show I’ve seen all year.
