Broadway - A Star Spangled Celebration 2009

I could have danced all night.......... Oh what a beautiful morning......... I got rhythm, I got music...... Let the sun shine, Let the sun shine in.........  oops, sorry.  I can't get those songs out of my head after going to see the Broadway show the other night.  It was wonderful, listening to all the Broadway hits being sung by the talented cast.  Gene Yaws does the majority of the male vocals and new to the Broadway show, Laureen Niamesny takes care for the majority of the female vocals.  Both are spectacular singers.  Let me tell you more about what you'll see and hear at the show.

First off, make sure to get there early to see their tribute to the veterans.  The show opens with "We're In The Money" and "Lullaby Of Broadway".  If you don't remember which shows the songs are from, look to the video screens at either side of the stage where they display the show names.  Gene and Lori alternate singing songs - dressing in different clothes to suit the show the song is from.  You'll hear songs from Sweet Charity like - "If My Friends Could See Me Now" and "Hey Big Spender",  from Guys and Dolls - "Luck Be A Lady", from My Fair Lady - "Wouldn't It Be Lovely", "With A Little Bit Of Luck", "I'm Getting Married In The Morning", and "I Could Have Danced All Night".  Gene and Laureen perform on stage with the remaining cast of singers and dancers that make the show wonderful.

Other Broadway musicals you'll hear songs from include Cabaret, Oaklahoma, Annie Get Your Gun, Crazy For You, Les Miserable, Mama Mia, HairSpray, Carousel, Chorus Line, Chicago, Thoroughly Modern Millie, Joseph And His Amazing Technicolor Dream Coat, Hair, Jesus Christ Superstar, Cats, and Grease.  I think the favorite part of the show for me was when Gene and Laureen sang a duo from the Phantom Of The Opera - "Music Of The Night".  They really showed the power of their voices and the crowd stopped the show for a few moments with their applause.

The night was filled with music that is still wandering in my head.  Makes me want to rent some Broadway musicals on DVD so I can hear the songs again ----- or go back several times more to this show.  Either way, I encourage you to see this show if you like Broadway musicals.  You won't be disappointed.  I would also suggest that you sit about 5 or more rows back so you can see the entire stage.  With 6 male and 13 female dancers - and 2 vocalists, they fill the stage completely.

Sorry, no pictures.  No cameras allowed in the theater.  You can take your photo with performers in the lobby after the show.
